Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Toyota Matrix than the xD because of its larger tank. The Scion and the Toyota Matrix compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
The Toyota Matrix's fuel tank will need to be replenished a tad more often than the unit in the Scion xD.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the Scion xD to the dealership as the Toyota Matrix. Producing an exact gas mileage evaluation is so hard that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though the Scion xD is the winner in terms of gas mileage. As far as gas mileage, the Scion xD has the Matrix beat. The Scion is substantially less expensive than the Toyota Matrix when it comes to MSRP. The Toyota Matrix will cost you a lots_of_money in gasoline every year compared to the Scion xD.

Handling
With their comparable turning circles, the Toyota Matrix and the Scion xD most definitely handle almost the same into and out of tight spots.

Comfort
Taller drivers will significantly enjoy the extra head room in the Matrix's front cabin compared to the Scion xD. The ampler interior dimensions of the Toyota make it significantly roomier for your passengers than the xD.

The Toyota and the Scion xD have the same basic warranty.
