Performance
Both the Toyota Matrix and the Chrysler PT Cruiser are likely to feel a little sluggish because of their high horsepower-to-weight ratio.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Toyota is definitely sprier, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; on the other hand, note that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Toyota's engine is considerably smaller than the Chrysler PT Cruiser's. Remember that smaller engines can be stressed more; on the flip side, smaller engines typically get better gas mileage. The Toyota could learn a lesson or two from the Chrysler in terms of torque. Torque equals pickup, and the Chrysler PT Cruiser will have picked up and gone by the time the Toyota Matrix finally gets moving.

Utility
The Chrysler is a better choice than the Toyota Matrix regarding hauling capacity, especially if you often need to carry a lot of equipment or big animals.
