Transcending the previous model with an array of new features and upgrades, the all-new 2008 Toyota Highlander combines driving sophistication, abundant cargo capacity, and innovative safety features in a svelte new body style.

Three trim lines are available on the 2008 Highlander – the base Highlander, Sport, and Limited models. All share the same powerful and efficient 3.5 liter DOHC 24-valve dual independent VVT-i V6 engine producing 270 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to a 5-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), sequential shift, and Snow Mode. All Highlander models are available with standard front-wheel 2-wheel drive or available full-time 4-wheel drive.

Safety features are abundant in spades in the 2008 Highlander. The Star Safety System™ includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with cutoff switch, Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. A total of seven airbags protect passengers in all three rows, with dual front airbags with the Advanced Airbag System, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, three-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags (RSCA), and a driver’s knee airbag. Also included in the safety package is a Direct Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), alerting the driver when tire pressure is critically low. For those who take the Highlander off the beaten path, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC) are designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control and speed on steep, downhill descents.

Along with the redesigned exterior, the options list has expanded dramatically to include a swath of entertainment features. An available voice-activated DVD navigation system includes a JBL® AM/FM 4-disc in-dash CD changer, satellite radio capability, MP3/WMA playback, hands-free phone calling via Bluetooth®, and nine speakers with subwoofer. An auxiliary audio jack is standard to accommodate external MP3 music players. An available rear-seat DVD entertainment system includes a nine-inch display and two wireless headphones.

Convenience features include an available CFC-free automatic digital climate control system with multi-function display, air filter, and rear seat vents for second-and third-row seats, Smart Key System with Push Button Start and remote illuminated entry, leather trimmed 8-way power adjustable front seats, plus a second-row Center Stow™ seat and console, which adds major cargo flexibility in a wide range of configurations. With the fold-flat third-row seat down, cargo space reaches a maximum of 94.1 cubic feet, adding to a generous 40.6 inches of front seat head room. A power rear door makes loading a breeze, while an available backup camera gives the driver a view of what’s behind the vehicle. For those family getaways or a weekend trip with friends, 10 cupholders can surely meet the needs of your thirsty crew, while a convenient conversation mirror makes rear seat ramblings even easier. The available power tilt/slide moonroof with sunshade lets the cool breezes in, and a selection of stylish 17” and 19” aluminum alloy wheels guarantees you’ll arrive in style.
