2009 Toyota Highlander Overview

The 2009 Toyota Highlander combines driving sophistication, abundant cargo capacity, innovative safety features and a new engine that is sure to appeal drivers everywhere.

Three trim lines are available – the base Highlander, Sport, and Limited models.  The Highlander now has a brand-new 2.7-liter, 187-horsepower 4-cylinder engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that offers better fuel economy.  A more powerful 3.5-liter, 270-horsepower V-6 engine is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with intelligence, sequential shift, and Snow Mode. All Highlander models are available with standard front-wheel 2-wheel drive or available full-time 4-wheel drive.  The Highlander receives 17-20/23-27 mpg city/highway and competes with the Chevrolet Travers, Honda Pilot and Mazda CX-9.  For better fuel economy, the Highlander Hybrid offers 27/25 mpg city/highway.

An available voice-activated DVD navigation system includes a JBL® AM/FM 4-disc in-dash CD changer, satellite radio capability, MP3/WMA playback, Bluetooth® connectivity, and nine speakers with subwoofer. An auxiliary audio jack is standard to accommodate external MP3 music players. An available rear-seat DVD entertainment system includes a nine-inch display and two wireless headphones.

Conveniences include the Smart Key System with push button start and remote illuminated entry, leather trimmed 8-way power adjustable front seats, plus a second-row Center Stow™ seat and console, which adds major cargo flexibility in a wide range of configurations. With the fold-flat third-row seat down, cargo space reaches a maximum of 94.1 cubic feet, adding to a generous 40.6 inches of front seat head room. A power rear door makes loading a breeze, while an available backup camera gives the driver a view of what’s behind the vehicle. For those family getaways or a weekend trip with friends, 10 cup holders can surely meet the needs of your thirsty crew. The available power tilt/slide moonroof with sunshade lets the cool breezes in.

When it comes to safety, the Highlander is totally covered.  The Star Safety System™ includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control with, Traction Control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. A total of seven airbags protect passengers in all three rows, with dual front airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, three-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag. For those who take the Highlander off the beaten path, hill start assist and downhill assist are designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control and speed on steep, downhill descents.
