2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Overview

The 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is a seven-passenger midsize SUV that offers abundant cargo capacity, technological innovations, and, of course, excellent fuel efficiency and low carbon emissions.

The heart and soul of the Highlander Hybrid is the Hybrid Synergy Drive® system, combining a 3.3-liter, 208-horsepower V-6 engine and a 650-watt electric motor producing a total output of 270-horsepower. This combination achieves commendable mileage estimates of 27/25 mpg city/highway.

The new Hybrid System Indicator helps you drive as efficient as possible.  The display shows three white LED dashes along the outer edge of the power meter, a gauge that replaces the gas-powered Highlander's tachometer. If you keep the needle of the power meter within the three white dashes of Normal mode, a constant level of speed is maintained, which helps to achieve maximum fuel economy. The innovative EV mode, activated by a switch on the center console, allows the Highlander Hybrid to operate in fully electric mode for a limited distance at low speeds. A better choice for everyday driving is the new Econ drive mode, which restrains throttle response, thereby limiting excessive acceleration and preventing unnecessary fuel consumption.

An available voice-activated DVD navigation system includes a JBL® AM/FM 4-disc in-dash CD changer, satellite radio capability, Bluetooth® connectivity and nine speakers with subwoofer. An auxiliary audio jack is standard to accommodate external MP3 music players. An available rear-seat DVD entertainment system includes a nine-inch display and two wireless headphones.

Convenience features include Smart Key System with Push Button Start and remote illuminated entry, leather trimmed 8-way power adjustable front seats, plus a second-row Center Stow™ seat and console, which adds major cargo flexibility in a wide range of configurations. With the fold-flat third-row seat, cargo space reaches a maximum of 94.1 cubic feet, adding to a generous 40.6 inches of front seat head room. A power rear door makes loading a breeze, while an available backup camera gives the driver a view of what’s behind the vehicle. The available power tilt/slide moonroof with sunshade lets the cool breezes in.

As you would expect, the Highlander Hybrid is a champion of safety and security features. The Star Safety System™ with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management includes vehicle stability control with cutoff switch, traction control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. It’s also loaded with seven total airbags, including dual front airbags with the Advanced Airbag System, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, three-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag.

The 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is a flexible, utilitarian package that delivers a comfortable, innovative, and eco-friendly driving experience.
