Toyota FJ Cruiser vs. Mazda Tribute Review

Performance
Regarding horsepower, the Toyota FJ Cruiser packs quite a punch and will knock the Mazda down a few rungs. On the other hand, keep in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Mazda Tribute is most certainly sprier than the Toyota FJ Cruiser, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; on the other hand, note that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Mazda's engine is tremendously smaller than the Toyota FJ Cruiser's. Keep in mind that a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder; however, smaller engines are often cheaper to fix. The Mazda Tribute could learn a lesson or two from the Toyota in terms of torque.

Utility
Neither the Mazda Tribute nor the Toyota FJ Cruiser has a marked advantage in terms of seating capacity. The Toyota FJ Cruiser outpulls the Mazda Tribute by a sizeable margin.

Convenience
You will most certainly have to visit your friendly gas station more often with the Toyota FJ Cruiser than with the Mazda Tribute.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the FJ Cruiser offers a bit more head room than the Tribute, there really isn't much of a difference. The Mazda Tribute offers more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Toyota FJ Cruiser does.

Dimensions
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is substantially heavier than the Tribute. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the FJ Cruiser than the Mazda because of its larger tank. The Tribute and the Toyota FJ Cruiser compete for the same parking spaces.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the Mazda Tribute to the dealership as the Toyota FJ Cruiser. The Toyota FJ Cruiser will tax your gas budget significantly more than the Mazda Tribute will. With respect to gas mileage, the Mazda Tribute bests the Toyota FJ Cruiser. As far as MSRP, the Toyota costs almost as much as the Mazda Tribute (though the Mazda Tribute is a tad cheaper). The Mazda Tribute will save you a lots_of_money at the pump every year compared to the Toyota.
