2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser Overview
Sleek and sporty, the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser five-passenger midsize SUV traces its roots back to the 1958 FJ40, which was known as a tough, dependable four-wheel-drive truck.
Offered in rear- and four-wheel-drive configurations, the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser is equipped with a 4.0-liter V-6 engine now featuring variable valve timing and rocker arms—which boosts output by 20 horses up to 259—and is mated to either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. EPA estimated fuel economy ratings range between 14-17 mpg in the city and 19-21 mpg on the highway and when properly equipped, the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Facing competition from its off-road capable Nissan Xterra and Jeep Wrangler counterparts, the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser is distinguishable by its white roof and boxy exterior styling. Additional unique features include 17-inch steel wheels with available 17-inch alloys, three windshield wipers, and rear-hinged access doors for ease of entry and rear swing gate with a spare tire.
A new Special Edition model caters to the serious off-road enthusiast and features Bilstein shock absorbers, a differential lock with brake-based traction control, skid plates and BFGoodrich® all-terrain tires. An off-road package offers up 16-inch wheels, which accommodate higher sidewalls and provide more cushioning from the tires.
Standard interior equipment in the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser includes air conditioning, power windows and locks, a six-speaker CD stereo system and a folding 60/40-split backseat for added cargo-carrying capability. Power mirrors, a six-CD changer and gauge cluster, compass, outside temperature display and vehicle pitch readouts, are available as options.
A suite of standard safety technologies— including four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, an electronic stability system and front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags—helped the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser earn “Good” results in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests. A roll-sensing feature works in conjunction with the side curtain airbags to deploy them in case of a rollover and active front head restraints move forward in a rear-end collision to restrict head movement.
Sleek and sporty, the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser midsize SUV offers interior refinement, premium safety technologies and several packages designed to maximize off-road performance.
