Toyota Camry vs. Honda Accord Review

Performance
Both the Camry and Accord have at least two engines to choose from with the Accord being the stronger of the two.  The Accord has a base 177-horsepower engine, a 190-hp engine in the EX and an extremely powerful 271-hp V-6.  The Camry is not far behind with a 158-horsepower engine and a 268-hp V-6. The Camry is a little heavier than the Accord, which might translate to slight sluggishness.  Both are approximately the same when it comes to torque (acceleration).

Utility
The Camry and Accord are almost identical when it comes to legroom, headroom, cargo volume and seating capacity.  Because the Accord is available as a sedan and a coupe, the coupe offers slightly less passenger volume.

Fuel Economy/The Green Effect
Honda and Toyota are synonymous with fuel economy, which is evident with both the Accord and Camry.  The Camry holds a slight edge with 19-21 mpg in the city and 28-31 mpg on the highway compared to 17-22/25-31 mpg city/highway for the Accord.  The Camry also emits fewer carbon emissions with 7.3-8-0 metric tons of carbon dioxide compared to the Accord’s 7.3-8.3 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

Technology
If you love the latest and greatest in technology, you will enjoy both cars.  Bluetooth connectivity and navigation systems are optional in both vehicles. Both have a standard MP3/AUX jack. The Camry boasts an optional touch screen DVD navigation system, eight-speaker JBL 6-disc in-dash CD changer with XM Satellite Radio capability. The Accord EX and EX-L trims offer a USB Audio Interface, which lets you control your music library through a 270-watts and seven-speakers with XM Satellite Radio, while the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with voice recognition proves to be a nice touch.

Safety
The Accord comes with a plethora of standard safety features including the Advanced Compatibility Engineering TM Body Structure, which disperses frontal crash energy over a wide area, keeping it away from passengers.  The Accord also features vehicle stability assist with traction control as standard equipment, whereas vehicle stability control with traction control is optional in the Camry.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) give both extremely high marks.
