Since its debut in 1984, the Toyota 4Runner has remained a top choice with consumers wanting excellent reliability, proven off-road capabilities, and lots of room for passengers and cargo. The new 2008 Toyota 4Runner is perfect for weekend runabouts or tackling the challenges of the urban jungle.

The standard 236-horsepower V6 has enough grunt for most driving situations. The available 260-horsepower V8 adds additional power, but is only necessary for serious towing or off-road adventures. With available full-time 4-wheel drive and a limited-slip differential, the 4Runner can tackle a variety of road and weather conditions with confidence. Included on 4WD models is Downhill Assist Control, which restricts speed when going down steep grades, while Hill Start Assist Control works to keep the vehicle from rolling backward on an upgrade.

The 4Runner comes well equipped in all three trim levels. The SR5 will suit most people’s needs, with automatic climate control, AM/FM CD stereo, and available navigation system. The Sport Edition offers an upgraded suspension for more rugged use and even more interior amenities.  The top-of-the-line Limited pampers with leather seating, heated front seats, and upscale interior trim. Compared to a crossover vehicle, the 4Runner offers a rougher ride, due to its truck-based chassis. However, when the terrain gets rocky or the weather gets rough, the 4Runner’s suspension does a great job of handling the elements. Front, side, and side curtain airbags come standard and the anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake-force Distribution gives the vehicle additional stopping power in emergency situations.

For SUV buyers wanting a solid, powerful, and reliably rugged machine that’s equally comfortable patrolling the city streets as it is traversing the backwoods, the 2008 Toyota 4Runner is worth a serious look.
