2009 Toyota Tundra Overview
One of the most powerful half-ton full-size pickups with the size and capability to handle the roughest jobs, the 2009 Toyota Tundra is changing the segment with its refined character and sheer power.
Available in Regular Cab, extended Double Cab, and four-door CrewMax configurations, the Tundra comes with a standard bed or long bed. In Double Cab and CrewMax models, there are three trim levels – base, off-road SR5, and the luxurious Limited. Engine choices start with a 4.0-liter V-6 engine, which provides adequate power. The uplevel 4.7-liter, 276-horsepower V-8 boasts better towing capability and torque. The top-of-the line 5.7 liter, 381-horsepower V-8 offers a maximum towing capacity of 10,800 pounds. An all-new 5.7-liter V-8 flex-fuel Tundra will be available in select regions this year. The 5-speed or 6-speed automatic transmissions offer sequential shifting for manual shifting ability, and uphill/downhill shift logic to make ascending and descending easy. The 6-speed features Tow/Haul mode to maximize towing ability. The available 4WDemand four-wheel drive system features an electronically-controlled 2-speed transfer case to expertly traverse all manner of off-road conditions with poise.
Other new additions are the two TRD option packages, which are geared for off-roaders and street enthusiasts. The TRD Rock warrior offers bigger tires, Bilstein shock absorbers and other exterior enhancements, while the TRD Sport features more interior upgrades.
Interior features include a JBL® 6-disc in-dash CD changer with auxiliary audio jack, 12 speakers, and subwoofer for a superior audio experience. Available Bluetooth® wireless technology makes hands-free calling a breeze. The optional leather-trimmed and heated bucket seats with 10-way power-adjustable driver and 4-way power-adjustable passenger seats make the drive more comfortable. Standard dual zone manual climate control with sync mode will please both front seat occupants with individual controls.
Standard safety features include a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and Brake Assist to increase stopping power and minimize wheel lockup during hard braking. Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control helps to maintain control during emergency maneuvers. Standard dual front airbags with front passenger cutoff switch, front seat-mounted side airbags, and front roll-sensing side curtain airbags make the Tundra one of the safest full-size pickups. The Tundra has the highest crash-test rating of any truck in its class, becoming the first full-size pickup to earn a “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
