New 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara

Suzuki decided it was time to make some serious changes to the Grand Vitara, and by the look of things, they made the right choices. Two new engines and an updated front fascia headline the key changes to the 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Three trim lines are available on the Grand Vitara – the base model, XSport, and Luxury. Suzuki did away with the 2.7-liter, 185-horsepower V-6 and now the Grand Vitara now offers a 2.4-liter, 166-horsepower four-cylinder engine and a 3.2-liter, 230-horsepower V-6 monster. The four-cylinder is mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, while the V-6 is mated to a five-speed automatic. Standard rear-wheel drive is great for performance driving, while optional 4-mode full-time four-wheel drive with a transfer case lock and low-range gear offers excellent handling and off-road performance in a variety of weather conditions.

Not only did the Grand Vitara get two new fresh engines, but it got a fresh look. An updated front grille and bumper give the Grand Vitara a sleek yet bold appearance. When it comes to fuel economy, the Grand Vitara gets 17-19 MPG in the city and 23-26 MPG on the highway. The Grand Vitara competes with the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4.

The comprehensive safety package includes 4-wheel disc brakes with a standard 4-wheel anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake-force distribution for excellent stopping power and steering control under hard braking. Advanced, dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags and front-seat mounted side airbags offer enhanced passenger protection in a collision.

Amenities include an optional 7-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with in-dash 6-disc CD changer with MP3/WMA playback, subwoofer, and XM® Satellite Radio-ready receiver. The available SmartPass™ keyless entry and starting system allows you to unlock and start the vehicle with the push of a button on the keyfob. Standard digital automatic climate control air conditioning includes a micron filtration system to keep the cabin cool and healthy. An available Power Tilt and Slide Sunroof offers excellent ventilation and cool breezes. Available heated outside mirrors are the perfect complement to a cold winter. Heated front seats with leather trim are available on Luxury models.
