2009 Subaru Outback Overview
A car unlike any other, the 2009 Subaru Outback continues to provide power, off-roading capabilities and interior space for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike.

After jettisoning last year’s base and L.L. Bean editions, the Outback is available in five trim levels: the base 2.5i, 2.5i Special Edition, 2.5i Limited, 2.5XT Limited and 3.0R Limited. All three 2.5i editions come with a 2.5-liter, 170-horsepower Subaru Boxer engine. The Boxer engine is placed longitudinally providing for a lower center of gravity. The 2.5XT Limited uses a 2.5-liter, 243-horsepower turbocharged Boxer engine and the 3.0R Limited boasts a 3.0-liter, 245-horsepower 6-cylinder Boxer engine with an adaptive 5-speed automatic transmission with SPORTSHIFT® manual shifting capability, also available on 2.5 XT models. A 5-speed manual transmission is also available on 2.5i and 2.5 XT models for crisp, well-defined shifts.

Available only as a wagon, the Outback seats five and offers 33.5 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seats up—which is comparable to larger SUVs like the Volvo XC70, V50 and Volkswagen Passat wagon. When it comes to fuel economy, the Outback is on par with the competition with 17-20 MPG in the city and 24-26 MPG on the highway.

Both the 2.5XT Limited and 3.0R Limited come with SI-DRIVE, which allows you to maximize engine performance, control and efficiency by choosing "Intelligent", "Sport" and "Sport Sharp" modes. Operated by using a rotary dial mounted on the center console or a button on the steering wheel, it’s like having three engines in one. Standard continuous symmetrical All-Wheel Drive provides enhanced traction and power to keep the car under control in a variety of road conditions. A variety of audio systems are available with an optional 6-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3/WMA capability and auxiliary audio jack for portable media players. An available touch-screen GPS navigation system provides detailed maps and directions to guide your way. Fog lights come standard on some models, while a panoramic moonroof is optional.

An electronic stability system, 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and Electronic Brake-force distribution come standard. The optional Traction Control System helps to avoid a loss of traction during acceleration. The advanced frontal airbag system features dual front airbags, side-curtain airbags and seat-mounted side-impact airbags to protect front and rear passengers.

Explore the great outdoors with your friends or family in the unique and versatile 2009 Subaru Outback.
