2012 Subaru Legacy Overview
Subaru has a reputation for all-weather durability and the 2012 Subaru Legacy is no exception. This midsize sedan seats five, is available in three engine and transmission types, seven trim levels, and provides solid all-around performance.
A 170-horsepower, 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine, with fully synchronized six-speed manual transmission, powers the base-model Subaru Legacy. Engine upgrades include a 265-horsepower, 2.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder and 256-horsepower, 3.6-liter, six-cylinder. Available transmissions include a continuously variable automatic with manual mode and five-speed automatic. Power steering and cruise control are standard on all models, as is all-wheel drive (this is a Subaru after all).
Equipped with the four-cylinder engine, the Legacy’s EPA fuel economy rating is 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines each get 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Inside, the Legacy’s rear seats feature a 60/40-split-flat-folding rear seatback for added storage when needed. Cloth upholstery can be upgraded to a leather-trimmed option, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and manual transmission shifter handle are available. A tilt/telescoping steering column is standard on all models, and power windows and dual-zone climate control are available. The standard four-speaker audio system with auxiliary input jack can be upgraded to a six-speaker premium or nine-speaker premium Harman Kardon audio system. Satellite radio and a navigation package with voice-activated eight-inch touch screen, Bluetooth® connectivity, and a USB port with iPod control are available.
The Legacy features aerodynamic styling with creased lines on the hood and a chrome-trimmed front grille. The turbocharged models feature a functional hood scoop. The standard headlights feature projector and low-beam functionality with auto-on, and fog lights are available on some models. Wheel choices include standard 16-inch steel wheels, available 16-inch eight-spoke, 17-inch 10-spoke, and 18-inch 15-spoke aluminum wheels, and include summer performance or all-season tires. An available all-weather package includes heated side mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer.
The Legacy offers standard front, seat-mounted and side curtain airbags, height-adjustable front seat head restraints, and three individual rear head restraints. The reinforced frame and energy-absorbing collapsible steering column protect the driver and occupants in the event of a collision. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic stability, and traction control systems are included. Keyless entry and an antitheft security system are standard on all models.
The 2012 Subaru Legacy offers drivers standard all-wheel drive, a spacious cabin for driver and passengers alike, and a strong selection of engine and transmission choices.
