2017 Subaru Forester Overview (See Available Styles)

New/Notable:
  • New facelift for 2017
  • Regular or turbocharged 4-cylinder engine options
  • Available Saddle Brown leather upholstery for Touring trim
The 2017 Subaru Forester is a compact crossover that seats up to 5 passengers. It competes with the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. This year, it has been given a mid-cycle refresh that includes a new front-end, a quieter cabin, and updated available safety features.

The Forester 2.5i has 4 trims available: the base model, Premium, Limited, and Touring.

The Forester 2.0XT has the Premium and Touring trims.

The revised front-end of the Forester 2.5i looks more rugged and geometric than the previous iteration. The front grille received new mesh pattern with bigger hole vents. The fascia has larger air ducts and more sculpted lines. The 2.0XT’s front-end is differentiated by a fascia with C-shaped motifs. 17-inch steel wheels with all-season tires and black side mirrors come standard. Available features include LED headlights, front fog lights, turn signal indicators at the side mirrors, a rear spoiler, roof rails, a power liftgate, and 17- or 18-inch aluminum wheels.

The 2.5i and 2.0XT models correspond to their engine volume capacities. The 2.5i models are powered by a 170-hp, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The 2.0XT models have a 250-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Both engines can be mated to a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an available continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. Fuel economy for the 2.5i models is an EPA-estimated 26/32 mpg city/highway. It lowers to a 23/27 mpg rating for the 2.0XT models.

Inside, the Forester has a quieter cabin, which has been given thicker door glass, improved door seals, and underfloor insulation. It also has a standard 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The Touring trim comes with more upscale, Saddle Brown leather upholstery with contrast stitching. The center console houses a standard STARLINK multimedia system that includes a 6.2-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and dual USB ports. It can be upgraded with an integrated navigation system and a Harmon Kardon premium audio system. Available features include power/heated front seats, a memory seat, push-button start, and a panoramic moonroof. Air conditioning, power windows/locks, and remote keyless entry come standard.

Standard safety features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. The available EyeSight safety system has been updated with lane keep assist technology. A blindspot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, and a reverse automatic braking system are also available for the Limited and Touring trims.
