2014 Scion iQ Overview
The iQ, which Scion classifies as a micro-subcompact, became one of the three or four smallest cars in the U.S. when it arrived in late 2011, joining the likes of the Smart ForTwo, Mini Cooper and Fiat 500. The iQ delivers good but not great mileage – like the ForTwo but with more seats.
The IQ is only 120.1 inches long from bumper to bumper with doors making up most of the car’s sides. Sitting on 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers and all-season tires; 16-inch alloy wheels available. Keyless entry come standard as well as folding side mirrors with turn-signal indicators. Fog lights and rear spoiler available.
A variety of interior features including air conditioning, outside temperature gauge, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, Pioneer CD stereo with MP3 jack and USB port, and Bluetooth cellphone connectivity and streaming audio all fit inside the Scion IQ. The front passenger sits farther forward than the driver, which makes the rear seat on that side more usable. Furthermore, both rear seats fold flat independently for cargo versatility. Navigation system and configurable interior lighting with seven colors also available.
Under the Hood
The IQ features a 94-horsepower, 1.3-liter four-cylinder with a continuously variable automatic transmission on regular gas. It is front-wheel drive, and comes standard with electric power steering. Lowering springs available.
Despite it’s size, the Scion IQ is outfitted with seat bags at nearly every angle. Front-seat side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, front knee airbags, rear-window curtain airbags, and front-seat-cushion airbags designed for occupant positioning during a crash. In addition to internal collision safety, it features standard antilock brakes, traction control, and electronic stability system.
