2014 Volkswagen Beetle vs. 2014 Volkswagen GTI Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
Passengers in the back seat will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Volkswagen GTI than the Volkswagen Beetle, due to its greater head- and legroom. As far as headroom and legroom go, there's not much difference between the Volkswagen Beetle and the Volkswagen GTI in the front seats.

Convenience
With the Volkswagen Beetle you will definitely be making fewer stops at the gas station than with the Volkswagen GTI, due to its larger tank size and better fuel economy.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). When looking only at MSRP, the Volkswagen Beetle will have less of an impact on your bank account than the Volkswagen GTI. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it's built. The Volkswagen Beetle and the Volkswagen GTI have similar Destination Charges.

Dimensions
The Volkswagen Beetle is a little wider than the Volkswagen GTI, so getting in and out of the car in a crowded parking lot may be a little more of a squeeze. When looking at overall length, the Volkswagen Beetle takes up about the same amount of space in your garage as the Volkswagen GTI.

Drivetrain
With somewhat higher torque, the engine of the Volkswagen Beetle transmits a bit more power to the wheels than the Volkswagen GTI.

Handling
The Volkswagen Beetle has about the same turning radius as the Volkswagen GTI, allowing equal maneuverability in and out of tight spots.

Performance
When it comes to horsepower, the Volkswagen Beetle is significantly less powerful than the Volkswagen GTI. The good news is that, reportedly, cars with lower horsepower engines often have lower insurance premiums.

Utility
The Volkswagen Beetle has less seating than the Volkswagen GTI, making the Volkswagen GTI the better choice if you need to chauffeur many passengers. The Volkswagen Beetle has significantly less cargo room than the Volkswagen GTI, which may be a concern if you do a lot of warehouse shopping.

Warranty
The Volkswagen Beetle comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Volkswagen GTI.
