2014 Nissan Xterra vs. 2014 Toyota Highlander Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
Passengers in the backseat will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Toyota Highlander than in the Nissan Xterra, due to its greater head- and legroom. The Toyota Highlander offers just a little more front head- and legroom than the Nissan Xterra, offering the driver and front passenger a bit more room and comfort.

Convenience
The Toyota Highlander requires fewer stops at the gas station than the Nissan Xterra, making it more convenient to drive.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). Clearly, the Nissan Xterra is a better financial choice over the Toyota Highlander, when considering MSRP. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it's built. Both the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander have similar Destination Charges.

Dimensions
Since the Nissan Xterra is much slimmer than the Toyota Highlander, it'll be much easier to find a wide enough space in a crowded parking lot. If you go with the Nissan Xterra, you'll have a much easier time finding a large enough space to park than you will with the Toyota Highlander.

Drivetrain
With somewhat higher torque, the Nissan Xterra transmits power to its wheels a bit more effectively than the Toyota Highlander.

Handling
The Nissan Xterra has a smaller turning radius than the Toyota Highlander, allowing you to more easily maneuver in and out of tight spots.

Performance
If you've got something you need to pull, the Nissan Xterra will do just as well as the Toyota Highlander, since they have about the same towing capacity. The Nissan Xterra has a little less horsepower than the Toyota Highlander.

Utility
Soccer Moms beware - the Nissan Xterra seats a lot fewer people than the Toyota Highlander. The Nissan Xterra has significantly less cargo capacity than the Toyota Highlander.

Warranty
The Nissan Xterra comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Toyota Highlander.
