2015 Nissan Pathfinder vs. 2015 Toyota Highlander Review

Comparison Review

Introduction
Both the 2015 Toyota Highlander and the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder are family-oriented crossovers that are meant to haul cargo and passengers comfortably. While both are utility vehicles, both are primarily meant for on-road, not off-road, driving.

Performance/Fuel Economy
The 2015 Toyota Highlander offers two powertrains: a 185-hp, 2.7-liter four-cylinder, and a 270-hp, 3.5-liter V-6. The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder is available with only one engine: A 260-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6. Both SUVs are available with either front-wheel or all-wheel-drive.

The four-cylinder Highlander gets 20/25 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive (AWD is not available on those models), while the V-6 gets 19/25 mpg with FWD and 18/24 with AWD. That's slightly worse than the 20/27 mpg that the Pathfinder gets with front-wheel drive and 19/26 mpg it gets with AWD.

Interior
Both vehicles offer modern convenience features and other popular types of content. Both are available with satellite radio, Bluetooth, heated seats, keyless entry and starting, and navigation; and both offer similar driver's aids like lane-departure alert. The Highlander offers Toyota's EnTune app suite, which sets it apart from the Nissan, but on the other hand, the Pathfinder offers a camera that allows drivers to see all around the vehicle.

Comfort/Utility
The Highlander can seat either seven or eight (only seven in the hybrid model), while the Pathfinder seats seven. The Nissan offers more front headroom, and though it has less legroom in the first row, it more importantly offers more in the second and third rows.

Conclusion
While similar in many ways, the Highlander offers the buyer more powertrain choice and more available seating, making it more appealing to those who want to best fit their crossover to their needs. The Pathfinder is the more stylish of the two to our eyes and gets better fuel economy; you really can't go wrong with either.
