2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata vs. 2017 Volkswagen Beetle Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
As far as headroom and legroom go, there's not much difference between the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Volkswagen Beetle in the front seats.

Convenience
The Volkswagen Beetle requires fewer visits to the gas station than the Mazda MX-5 Miata, making it more convenient to drive.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). The Mazda MX-5 Miata is somewhat more expensive than the Volkswagen Beetle. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it's built. The Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Volkswagen Beetle have similar Destination Charges.

Dimensions
Since the Mazda MX-5 Miata is much slimmer than the Volkswagen Beetle, it'll be much easier to find a wide enough space in a crowded parking lot. If you go with the Mazda MX-5 Miata, you'll have a much easier time finding a large enough space to park than you will with the Volkswagen Beetle.

Drivetrain
With its lower torque, the Mazda MX-5 Miata doesn't do as good a job transmitting power to its wheels as the Volkswagen Beetle.

Handling
The Mazda MX-5 Miata has a significantly smaller turning radius than the Volkswagen Beetle, allowing much better maneuverability in and out of tight spots.

Performance
The Mazda MX-5 Miata has less horsepower than the Volkswagen Beetle, so it will probably be somewhat slower.

Utility
The Mazda MX-5 Miata has less seating than the Volkswagen Beetle, making the Volkswagen Beetle the better choice if you need to chauffeur many passengers. The Mazda MX-5 Miata has significantly less cargo room than the Volkswagen Beetle, which may be a concern if you do a lot of warehouse shopping.

Warranty
The Mazda MX-5 Miata comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Volkswagen Beetle.
