2015 Lincoln MKS vs. 2016 Lincoln MKZ Review

Comparison Review

Introduction
These two Lincoln sedans are similar in look, but different in dimensions. The MKZ is classified as a midsize luxury sedan, while the MKS is a bona fide full-size sedan that serves as Lincoln's flagship. Although the two are in different classes, they're actually quite close on price; the MKS starts at about $3,500 more than the MKZ.

Performance/Fuel Economy
Both sedans comes with two engine options, and they actually share one engine. The smaller MKZ's base engine is a 240-hp EcoBoost four-cylinder, with a 300-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 optional. This V-6 is the base engine for the MKS, which can also be outfitted with a 365-hp EcoBoost V-6, which is by far the most powerful engine available between these two and gives the MKS a performance edge. The MKZ does hit back though when it comes to fuel economy; its smaller size and lower weight give it up to 22/33 mpg city/highway, which outpaces the MKS and its 19/28 mpg figures by a fair margin. The MKZ also offers all-wheel drive, which is missing on the MKS.

Interior Features
Both competitors offer technology rich interiors, which get MyLincoln Touch and SYNC with Bluetooth connectivity as standard equipment. The MKS does offer a few standard features missing on the MKZ, including leather upholstery and cooled front seats. There is however one killer features that the MKZ has over the MKS: a giant panoramic moonroof that really opens up the cabin.

Comfort/Utility
The larger MKS is the more comfortable of the two vehicles, offering more rear leg room, passenger volume, and cargo room (19.2 cubic feet vs. 15.4 cu. ft. in the MKZ).  It also comes with standard heated and cooled front seats, a helpful feature for longer stints behind the wheel.

Safety
Both vehicles earned identical five-star overall safety ratings from the NHTSA, their highest score, and offer similar safety features. The MKZ does offer two more airbags than that MKS (driver and passenger knee airbags).

Conclusion
Our personal lean is the MKZ, its styling is a bit more modern, it offers better fuel economy, and has that giant roof an option that is unique and only really offered on the MKZ. But if you are looking for optimal backseat comfort and a car to cruise the highways with, the MKS is probably better suited for you.
