2014 Honda Pilot vs. 2014 Mazda CX-9 Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
The Honda Pilot offers rear passengers about the same room to stretch out as the Mazda CX-9, with comparable head- and legroom. As far as headroom and legroom go, there's not much difference between front seat comfort in the Honda Pilot and the Mazda CX-9.

Convenience
The Honda Pilot requires fewer stops at the gas station than the Mazda CX-9, making it more convenient to drive.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). The Honda Pilot is somewhat more expensive than the Mazda CX-9. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it's built. Both the Honda Pilot and the Mazda CX-9 have similar Destination Charges.

Dimensions
Since the Honda Pilot is much wider than the Mazda CX-9, finding a wide enough spot in a parking lot may be a bit more challenging. The Honda Pilot is slightly shorter than the Mazda CX-9, which may make it easier to park.

Drivetrain
With its lower torque engine, the Honda Pilot doesn't do as good a job transmitting power to its wheels as the Mazda CX-9.

Handling
The Honda Pilot has the same turning radius as the Mazda CX-9, so they both maneuver the same in and out of tight spots.

Performance
In terms of towing capacity, the Mazda CX-9 is clearly the choice over the Honda Pilot for pulling heavy loads. The Honda Pilot has a little less horsepower than the Mazda CX-9.

Utility
The Honda Pilot offers greater seating capacity than the Mazda CX-9, making it a better choice for those who find themselves chauffeuring others around. The Honda Pilot has less cargo space than the Mazda CX-9, which is okay if you don't need to move a lot in one trip.

Warranty
The Honda Pilot comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Mazda CX-9.
