2015 Honda Odyssey vs. 2015 Toyota Sienna Review

Comparison Review

Introduction
There's nothing better than a minivan for carting around people or cargo and the two minivans we're considering today are mainstays in the people mover segment: the 2015 Honda Odyssey and the 2015 Toyota Sienna.

Performance/Fuel Economy
Both minivans come with 3.5-liter V-6 engines and six-speed automatic transmissions; the Sienna has slightly more horsepower (266-hp to 248-hp), but it doesn't mean much since we don't think anyone will be drag racing in either of these. If you're looking for all-wheel drive, it's only offered on the Sienna. The Odyssey does have the advantage when it comes to fuel economy, with 19/28 mpg city/highway. That beats the Sienna's 18/25 mpg rating by a few mpg.

Interior Features
The Sienna and Odyssey each get a few unique, family friendly features that aren't found on the other. The Odyssey has an available in-vehicle vacuum system, stowed in the cargo area, with a hose that can reach each corner of the minivan to help keep the interior tidy. The Sienna can add a "Driver Easy Speak" system that uses a microphone up front to project your voice through the speaker system, so you can easily talk to unruly passengers in the back.

Comfort/Utility
Both minivans seat seven or eight passengers depending on configuration and offer dual power sliding doors for easy access from either side. The third-row on each model can also be folded completely into the floor to provide a flat cargo area, and second row center seats are removable as well. But only on the Odyssey does it slide forward and back for easier access to a child in a car seat. The Sienna is available with a power tailgate for easier loading/unloading, a feature that is curiously missing on the Odyssey.

Safety
The 2015 Odyssey gets a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS, but the 2015 Sienna does one better with a Top Safety Pick+ award for models with forward collision systems equipped. Both offer standard rearview cameras and similar available safety technology.

Conclusion
These two are also very close on price, so that's not really a factor when deciding between the two. We prefer the flexibility of the Odyssey's second-row and having a built in vacuum could come in handy in a pinch, especially while on a trip. The Sienna does offer a more convenient power liftgate, and the Driver Easy Speak system is a nice touch. Our best advice: let the kids climb all over and pick the one they like.
