2014 Porsche Panamera Overview

The 2014 Porsche Panamera combines a luxury sedan and a sports car into a single package that delivers both comfort and smiles in equal measure.

After proving it could build an SUV with the Cayenne, Porsche set its sights on the luxury sedan market next, debuting the Panamera in 2010. The Panamera’s styling remains polarizing to this day, with an elongated hood and a long fastback rear that curves down slowly as it moves back giving it a unique profile. Instead of a traditional trunk, a hatchback with a power activated liftgate is found in the rear.

Like the 911, the Panamera is offered in a long list of varieties that can be separated by drivetrain and engine. Models with a “4” in the name get all-wheel drive, while all other models are rear-wheel drive.  Panamera and Panamera 4 models feature the base engine, a 310-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 295 pounds-feet of torque. Panamera S, Panamera 4S, and Panamera 4S Executive models take it up a notch, with a new 420-hp, biturbo 3.0-liter V-6 that replaces the 4.8-liter V-8. Panamera GTS and above models all get standard all-wheel drive. The GTS also uses a 440-hp, 4.8-liter V-8, while the Panamera Turbo and Turbo Executive get a bi-turbo version of that engine which makes 520-hp to go along with 516 pounds-feet of torque. At the top of the heap are the Turbo S and Turbo S Executive models which get 570-hp versions of the V-8 and run from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds.

All models come with Porsche’s superb, PDK seven-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox and launch control, for perfect launches off the line every time. An adaptive air suspension is optional (standard on higher trim) that is comfortable for long cruises, but can firm up to carve any canyon.

Inside, the Panamera’s cabin is very customizable with a wide range of color and material options from real wood trim to carbon fiber. Standard features include powered front seats, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, leather upholstery, USB/iPod port, and a leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel. All the requisite luxury car options are here as well, but bear in mind that this being Porsche, they will cost you an arm and part of a leg.
