The 2016 Porsche Cayenne is a luxurious, midsize SUV that offers sporty performance and seating for 5 passengers.
Six trims are available: the base model Cayenne, S, GTS, Diesel, Turbo, and Turbo S.
Even as an SUV, the Cayenne takes visual design cues from other Porsche sport cars. It has the familiar bug-eyed front-end and swooping roofline that arches to the rear. However, this crossover has much larger, wider mouth air vents for its intercoolers than its sport coupe relatives. It also features standard four-element LED daytime running lights and LED taillights. Other standard features include a power liftgate, power and heated side mirrors, and a dual pipe exhaust. Skid plates, a trailer hitch receiver, and auto-dimming side mirrors are also available.
All engines for the Cayenne are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD). The base model utilizes a standard 300-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 engine. The S and GTS trims use the same powertrain, but are tuned to achieve 420-hp and 440-hp respectively. The Diesel trim uses a 240-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V-6. The Cayenne Turbo has a 520-hp, twin turbocharged 4.8-liter V-8. The Turbo S uses the same powertrain, but is tuned to achieve 570-hp.
Fuel economy for the base model is an EPA-estimated 19/24 mpg city/highway. The S is rated at 17/29 mpg, while the GTS is lowered at 16/23 mpg. The EPA rates the Diesel trim at an excellent 20/29 mpg. Both the Turbo and Turbo S have a fuel efficiency rating of 14/21 mpg.
Inside, the Cayenne has a great selection of color schemes and premium finishes for its luxurious cabin. The new multifunction sport steering wheel is stylish and ergonomic. The raised, center console offers quick, convenient access to all the controls for the driver. The standard Porsche Communication Management system offers integrated navigation, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. Standard features include automatic temperature control, cruise control, power windows/locks, remote keyless entry, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. A power moonroof, a memory seat, a satellite radio, adaptive cruise control, heated/ventilated seats for the front and rear, and a premium audio system from Bose or Burmester are available as well.
Standard safety features include antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, rain-sensing wipers, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Airbags for the front, knee, and sides come standard as well. Optional features include a limited slip differential, a reverse sensing system, lane departure warning, and lane change assist.
