Drivers with frequent child-duty might favor the Toyota Highlander over the Torrent. The Torrent outpulls the Highlander by a sizeable margin.

Dimensions
The Toyota Highlander is significantly heavier than the Pontiac Torrent. The Toyota Highlander's tank is approximately the same size as the Pontiac Torrent's, though the Pontiac's is a bit bigger. The Toyota and the Pontiac Torrent compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
You'll most certainly take the Toyota Highlander for a fill-up roughly as often as the Pontiac Torrent.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. The Pontiac Torrent is considerably cheaper to get to the dealership than the Toyota Highlander. There really isn't much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the Toyota Highlander is a tad more economical than the Pontiac Torrent. The Toyota isn't much pricier than the Pontiac Torrent as far as MSRP.

With their similar turning radii, the Toyota Highlander and the Pontiac Torrent most definitely handle almost the same into and out of tight spots.

The Pontiac's engine is substantially bigger than the Toyota Highlander's. Bear in mind that larger engines may use more gas than smaller ones. The Toyota Highlander could learn a lesson or two from the Pontiac Torrent when it comes to torque.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Pontiac offers a bit more head room than the Toyota Highlander, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The Pontiac is not particularly more spacious for your passengers than the Toyota Highlander.
