Pontiac Torrent vs. Jeep Liberty Review

Neither the Jeep Liberty nor the Pontiac Torrent has a marked advantage with respect to seating capacity. The Pontiac Torrent outpulls the Jeep by a massive margin.

Performance
In terms of horsepower, the Pontiac Torrent packs quite a wallop and will knock the Liberty down a few rungs. On the other hand, remember that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Dimensions
The Jeep Liberty's tank is approximately the same size as the Pontiac's, though the Pontiac Torrent's is a little larger. The Jeep Liberty and the Torrent compete for the same parking spaces. The Pontiac Torrent's longer wheelbase will likely result in a smoother, more stable ride; on the other hand, the Jeep Liberty may give a more agile feel in daily traffic.

Convenience
The Jeep Liberty's fuel tank will need to be replenished somewhat more often than the unit in the Pontiac Torrent.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs almost the same to get the Pontiac Torrent to the dealership as the Jeep Liberty. There really isn't much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the Torrent is a little more economical than the Jeep Liberty. With respect to gas mileage, the Pontiac Torrent and the Jeep Liberty don't differ much. The Jeep Liberty isn't much less pricey than the Torrent regarding MSRP.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Jeep Liberty is quite certainly sprier than the Pontiac Torrent, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, bear in mind that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Pontiac's engine is a little smaller than the Liberty's, but not terribly so. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Liberty is substantially more powerful than the Pontiac Torrent.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Pontiac Torrent offers a bit more head room than the Jeep Liberty, there really isn't much of a difference. While the rear of the Pontiac Torrent offers a bit more head- and leg-room than the Jeep Liberty, there really isn't much of a difference.

Warranty
The Pontiac Torrent and the Jeep Liberty have the same basic after-sale protection.
