2009 Pontiac Solstice Overview
Pontiac is hoping that a few changes to its best selling roadster will quiet all those who compete with the 2009 Pontiac Solstice.
Take your pick between an all-new hard-top coupe and the already popular roadster. The hard-top can be removed, but is too big to fit into the back of the Solstice. The Solstice is available in two trims, the base model and the GXP. The base has a 2.3-liter, 173-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, while the GXP has a 2.0-liter, 260-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Both come with five-speed manual transmissions and an optional five-speed automatic. Fuel economy is decent with 19 MPG city and 24-28 MPG highway.
The Solstice kills the competition. A fully loaded GXP has more power and is much cheaper than the Honda S2000 and Audi TT. Not only are you getting more bang for your buck, but the Solstice is one sleek and sophisticated looking machine that can hold its own with the big boys.
With rear-wheel drive and an available limited-slip rear differential, the Solstice offers supple handling on the track or open road. GXP models have upgraded coilover monotube shocks that provide excellent road feel and razor-sharp handling characteristics.
The Premium Package includes leather interior and 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. Individual audio options include a 6-disc in-dash CD changer with MP3 playback, auxiliary input jack for iPod® and MP3 players, and a Monsoon premium 7-speaker audio system. The available Personal Audio Link delivers full "read" functionality for your iPod® such as sorting by category or shuffling songs and charges while the vehicle is running and the device is connected.
Safety is not optional with the Solstice. Four-wheel-disc antilock brakes and an electronic stability system and driver and passenger airbags are standard. Traction control is optional on the base model and standard on the GXP. OnStar® service is standard, with available turn-by-turn navigation, 24-hour access to helpful advisors, and automatic crash notification to assist you in a variety of driving situations.
With unparalleled power in its class and a friendly sticker price, the 2009 Pontiac Solstice blends form and function making your driving experience a pleasurable one.
