Nissan Xterra vs. Honda CR-V Review

Utility
Neither the Nissan Xterra nor the Honda has a marked advantage in terms of seating capacity. The Nissan is likely a better choice than the Honda with respect to hauling capacity, especially if you often need to carry a lot of stuff or big dogs. Towing is considerably more the Nissan's forte than it is the Honda's.

Performance
In terms of horsepower, the Xterra packs quite a wallop and will knock the Honda CR-V down a few rungs. On the other hand, keep in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Dimensions
The Nissan is significantly more bulky than the Honda CR-V. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Nissan Xterra than the Honda because of its bigger tank. The Nissan Xterra and the Honda CR-V compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
You'll likely take the CR-V for a fill-up approximately as often as the Nissan.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the Honda CR-V to the dealership as the Nissan Xterra. As far as fuel economy, the Honda CR-V has the Nissan Xterra beat. Producing an exact fuel economy evaluation is so hard that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though the Honda CR-V is the winner with respect to fuel economy. The Nissan isn't much costlier than the Honda as far as MSRP. The Nissan Xterra will cost you a lots_of_money in gasoline every year compared to the Honda CR-V.

Handling
With their similar turning circles, the Xterra and the Honda CR-V likely handle almost the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Nissan's engine is tremendously more massive than the Honda's. Remember that more massive engines may use more gas than smaller ones. Torque equals pickup, and the Xterra will have picked up and gone by the time the Honda CR-V finally gets moving. The Honda CR-V could learn a lesson or two from the Xterra with respect to torque.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Honda CR-V offers a bit more head room than the Xterra, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The Honda CR-V offers more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Nissan Xterra does.

Warranty
The Honda CR-V and the Nissan Xterra have the same basic warranty.
