The Dodge Journey will definitely prove more practical than the Nissan for those of you with frequent kid-cargo. The Dodge Journey is likely a better choice than the Nissan Xterra as far as transporting cargo, especially if you frequently need to carry a lot of luggage or sizeable animals. Towing is considerably more the Nissan Xterra's forte than it is the Dodge Journey's.

Dimensions
The Nissan Xterra is substantially heavier than the Dodge Journey. The Nissan Xterra and the Dodge Journey compete for the same parking spaces. The Nissan Xterra's shorter wheelbase may produce a less-settled highway ride but a sprier feel in daily traffic than the Dodge Journey.

Convenience
The Xterra's fuel tank will need to be replenished somewhat more often than the unit in the Journey.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. The Journey is significantly cheaper to get to the dealership than the Nissan Xterra. The Xterra pales in comparison to the Dodge in terms of gas mileage. With respect to MSRP, the Xterra costs almost as much as the Dodge Journey (though the Dodge Journey is a tad cheaper).

With their similar turning circles, the Nissan Xterra and the Dodge Journey likely handle about the same into and out of tight spots.

The Xterra's engine is tremendously more sizeable than the Dodge Journey's. Remember that larger engines may use more gasoline than smaller ones. Torque is roughly equivalent to acceleration, and in this respect, the Xterra is tremendously more powerful than the Journey.

While the front cabin in the Dodge Journey offers a bit more head room than the Xterra, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The Nissan is not particularly more spacious for your passengers than the Journey.
