2009 Nissan Xterra Overview
When it comes to trailblazing uncharted territory and embarking on rugged expeditions, the 2009 Nissan Xterra knows no boundaries.
A new, redesigned front end, new seat materials, roof-mounted off-road lights and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels highlight the changes in 2009. One feature the Xterra kept intact is the 4.0-liter, 261-horsepower V-6 engine that is mated to either a 6-speed manual or optional 5-speed automatic transmission. That’s more power than the Toyota FJ Cruiser and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and enough strength to tow up to 5,000 pounds. Fuel economy is average with 14-16 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway.
When navigating through steep inclines and declines, hill descent control helps control your speed and brake pressure so you can focus on other obstacles, while hill start assist helps prevent rolling backward on inclines. Available Bilstein off-road performance shocks absorb the punishment of uneven terrain, while the available electronic locking rear differential supplies equal power to both rear wheels and 4-wheel Limited Slip gives you traction up front so that you get maximum traction everywhere.
Available in four trim levels – X, S, Off Road, and SE – the Xterra is ready for action. Both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains offer a limited slip differential for maximum traction when you need it. Cargo capacity is generous, with 65.7 cubic feet of storage space with the second row seat folded flat. In addition, the available Utili-track Cargo Channel System makes stowing gear a cinch with available custom cargo accessories. Additional options include off-road skid plates, a functional roof rack, covered gear box, and front tow hooks – allowing you to create the ultimate adventure machine. Multiple clips and hooks, hideaway storage and easy-to-clean surface material in the cargo area encourages dirty behavior.
As rugged as the exterior is, the interior is plush with tech options, including optional Bluetooth® hands-free calling so you can talk while you drive safely. The optional Rockford Fosgate audio system features an in-dash 6-CD changer with MP3/WMA capability and nine speakers, while the auxiliary audio input will handle your iPod® with ease.
Standard safety features include a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution to prevent wheel lockup during hard stops. Dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and roof-mounted curtain side impact/rollover supplemental air bags are standard. Optional Vehicle Dynamic Control assists the driver in maintaining stability during evasive moves.
