2013 Nissan Rogue Overview

Nissan’s entry into the crowded compact crossover segment, the 2013 Rogue marches on mostly unchanged from last year’s model.

The Rogue got a makeover two years ago and that styling carries on into the current model year. While the Rogue doesn’t look as forward looking as some of its competitors, like the Ford Escape and Mazda CX-5, its look remains unique a latticed grille up front that’s split by a large Nissan badge and a curvier exterior. 16-inch wheels are standard (17- and 18-inch wheels are available), as are power mirrors and chrome door handles.

The Rogues keeps things simple mechanically, with only one engine and one transmission option: a 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 175 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to continuously variable automatic transmission. Nissan produces some of the best CVTs around and this is no exception. All-wheel drive is optional.

Unfortunately, the Rogue’s fuel economy numbers lag behind the segment’s front runners by several mpg – it checks in at 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway (22/27 mpg with all-wheel drive).

Inside, the Rogue seats five across two rows of seats. The Rogue’s interior opts for simplified styling, with easy to access controls in the center console and an uncluttered dash that leans more towards utilitarian than fanciful. Features are divided among two trim levels: S and SV. Standard features include air conditioning, keyless entry, 60/40 split folding rear seat, and an auxiliary audio input.  For those who want to spruce up the Rogue a little more, automatic climate control, a 4.3-inch center display, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, and leather upholstery are optional.

The Rogue comes with all the expected standard safety features, including side-impact and side curtain airbags, electronic stability and traction control, active front head restraints, and all-disc antilock brakes. In addition to an available backup camera, the Rogues offers something called “Around View” which uses four cameras located on the outside of the Rogue to show you a top-down view of the car so it’s easier to maneuver in tight spaces safely.
