After going through interior and exterior styling refreshments last year, the 2009 Nissan Pathfinder boasts power, durability and utility with interior refinements unheard of in the midsize SUV class.
The Pathfinder is available in four distinct trim lines – S, SE, SE Off-Road, and LE. Two powerful engines are available, starting with a 4.0-liter, 266-horsepower V-6 that can handle most duties with ease. Offering the most power in its class, the new 5.6-liter, 310-horsepower V-8 creates a maximum towing capacity of 7,000 lbs. in 4-wheel drive models. A five-speed automatic transmission with available manual mode is geared to make the power readily available. The Pathfinder is built for rugged activity—not fuel economy. The Pathfinder receives 13-15 MPG in the city and 18-22 MPG on the highway and is up against the likes of the Jeep Commander and Ford Explorer.
All-mode 4WD automatically switches between 2WD and 4WD, offering superior traction and control on a variety of on- and off- road surfaces. Available Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist offer control while ascending and descending. Seven passenger seating, three rows of premium seats, and 64 seating configurations give the Pathfinder amazing versatility. With the second and third row seats folded flat, 79 cubic feet of cargo space is available. A power moonroof is available and the tailgate’s glass window can open independent of the liftgate door. The available RearView monitor uses a backup camera to display a live image on what’s behind the vehicle to help navigate tight spots. Side-impact, side curtain airbags, antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, and electronic stability with traction control are standard.
Entertainment options include an optional DVD entertainment system with 8-inch monitor and remote control. The optional digital Bose® audio system features an in-dash 6-CD changer, and the available 9.3 GB Music Box hard drive and compact flash slot can play MP3/WMA files. The available DVD navigation system offers a 7-inch LCD touch screen, XM NavTraffic® for real-time traffic updates, lane guidance for turn-by-turn directions, and the 3D Birdview for a more detailed view of your path.
If you are a rough-and-tumble extreme outdoorsman, or one who appreciates the day-to-day rigors of driving in the city, 2009 Nissan Pathfinder offers the best of both worlds and proves to be the class of the midsize SUV segment.
