2012 Nissan NV Cargo Overview
For 2012, Nissan debuts a brand new lineup of commercial vans and the cargo versions are known as NV Cargo. This series of vans represents Nissan's entry into the commercial vehicle market, and there are three available versions: 1500, 2500HD, and 3500HD.
From the outside, all three members of the 2012 NV Cargo family look very distinctive. The front has an appearance more akin to a pickup truck than a van with a long hood and very sharp lines that extend from front to back. You will have a choice of two body styles: standard roof or high-top roof. The high-top roof, besides offering more overall interior volume, also adds optional storage bins in the space overhead.
The NV Cargo has been designed with flexibility in mind, inside and out. Its rear cargo doors swing out and lock at 90 degrees and can even swing wider (out to 243 degrees) when needed to fit larger items in the back. The side door is located on the passenger side and slides open wide enough that a forklift could load a pallet straight into the van. Inside, storage space abounds and there are also six d-rings located around the floor for securing cargo. Additional shelving, outlets, and lighting options are also available.
Engine choices vary according to trim level. The 1500 and 2500 HD both come standard with a 261-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 that outputs 281 pounds-feet of torque. A more powerful, 317-horsepower, 5.6-liter V-8 that makes 385 pounds-feet of torque is optional on the 2500HD and standard on the 3500HD. Both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and all trims of the NV Cargo feature rear-wheel drive. The addition of an optional towing kit allows the NV Cargo to tow up to 7,000 pounds with the V-6 and 9,500 pounds with the V-8.
Fuel economy ratings are not available for the NV Cargo as automakers are no required to release them for commercial vehicles.
Standard interior features include heavy-duty, waterproof vinyl seats, auxiliary audio input, and air conditioning. The NV Cargo is also available with extra tech options that turn it into a mobile office, like Bluetooth® connectivity, navigation system, satellite radio, and a vehicle tracking system that includes stolen vehicle tracking, burglar alarm notification, real-time GPS tracking, and call center support. Cargo versions of the NV only come with seating for two, but a passenger version of the NV is available that seats up to 12 passengers.
The NV Cargo comes with plenty of standard safety features, including four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and front airbags as standard safety features. Also available are a side-impact and side curtain airbags, a rearview camera, and rear sonar system.
