2014 Nissan Murano Overview

New/Notable:
  • Midsize crossover, seating for five passengers
  • 260-hp, 3.5-liter V-6
  • High-quality interior
The 2014 Nissan Murano midsize crossover competes with SUVs like the Ford Edge and Toyota Highlander, offering plenty of utility and interior comfort.

Last year, the Murano added features across several trim levels. SV models got an auto dimming rearview mirror and HomeLink capability, while the SL Navigation Package and the LE Platinum Edition each added advanced safety features like moving object detection, bling spot warning system, and lane departure warning.

From the outside, the Murano has a rounded look with a bold grille and front headlights, sharp fog light recesses, and prominent fenders. LED taillights and a dual chrome exhaust are both standard, while a power liftgate is optional. Also available are 20-inch wheels, fog lights, and a dual-panel moonroof.

Under the hood, the Murano features a 260-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 240 pounds-feet of torque. Power runs through a CVT that Nissan calls Xtronic. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is also available for those who live in areas with more inclement weather or spend time in the mountains during the winter months. Fuel economy ratings check in at 18 mpg in the city, and 24 mpg on the highway with FWD (23 mpg with AWD).

Inside, the five-seat Murano possesses a high quality interior with plenty of refinement with clearly laid out, easy to access controls. Optional simulated wood trim and double-stitched leather add a hint of class. Standard features include an auxiliary audio input, dual-zone automatic climate control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and push button start. Extra tech options include a USB/iPod port, Bluetooth connectivity, a hard drive navigation system with seven-inch touch-screen, and a Bose Audio system. Heated front and rear seats, leather upholstery, and powered front seats are optional and offer added comfort.

The 2014 Murano earned a four-star overall score on crash tests performed by the NHTSA. Active front head restraints, all-disc antilock brakes, electronic stability system with traction control, and six airbags are standard, while moving object detection, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, and a rearview camera are optional.
