With respect to horsepower, the Volkswagen GLI packs quite a punch and will knock the Nissan Altima Hybrid down a few rungs. On the flip side, note that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Dimensions
Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Nissan Altima Hybrid than the GLI because of its bigger tank. The Volkswagen and the Altima Hybrid compete for the same parking spaces. The GLI's shorter wheelbase may produce a less-settled highway ride but a more maneuverable feel in daily traffic than the Nissan Altima Hybrid.

Convenience
The Volkswagen's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the Nissan Altima Hybrid.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs approximately the same to get the Volkswagen GLI to the dealership as the Nissan. As far as gas mileage, the Nissan Altima Hybrid bests the Volkswagen. The Nissan Altima Hybrid's engine is substantially bigger than the Volkswagen GLI's. Bear in mind that more sizeable engines may use more gas than smaller ones. The Volkswagen GLI packs quite a punch compared to the Nissan Altima Hybrid with respect to torque, which is roughly equivalent to acceleration.

Taller drivers will significantly enjoy the extra head room in the Nissan Altima Hybrid's front cabin compared to the GLI.
