2015 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Sedan Overview
- Fuel economy ratings have improved slightly for 2015
- Same MSRP as the gasoline version of the MKZ
- Updated technology lets you interact with the MKZ via smartphone
The 2015 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid adds large improvements in fuel efficiency to a luxurious package, without any added cost.
Generally, hybrid models cost more than the gas-only versions for a variety of reasons, but Lincoln has chosen to go an alternative route and give the MKZ Hybrid the exact same starting price as the regular MKZ. This means you get a big boost in fuel economy (an over 40-percent improvement) for no additional dollars and you can start reaping the savings immediately, compared to other hybrids where you have to wait for the money you save on gas to offset the difference in purchase price.
Styling on the MKZ Hybrid is virtually identical, save for some differences in badging. All things considered, we’d call the MKZ Hybrid’s styling “slick” with its wide, winged front grille feeding into subtle lines and creases that run down the side of the car and give it a swoopy, smooth look. 18-inch wheels and LED headlights/taillights are standard, while 19-inch wheels are optional. Our favorite feature is also optional, a giant panoramic sunroof that measures almost 15 square feet in area. It lifts, and slides backward opening up the cabin to air and light, and gives the MKZ Hybrid a unique calling card.
Under the hood, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson cycle pairs with an electric motor to produce 188 total system hp. The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack which is lighter and more powerful than the old nickel metal-hydride packs. There’s enough juice to power the MKZ Hybrid at speeds of up to 85-mph on electric power only. Fuel economy ratings are estimated at 41/39 mpg city/highway, a slight improvement over last year.
Inside, the MKZ Hybrid’s features a luxurious interior that is combined with some of the latest technology. Leather upholstery and heated front seats are standard, as is an eight-inch touchscreen in the center console and MyLincoln Touch, which replaces many of the physical controls on the dashboard with touch sensitive panels instead. New for 2015 is a 3G cellular connection so that you can interact with the vehicle via a smartphone app, which allows owners to lock the car remotely, schedule in remote starts for cold days, and check the fuel level from near or far. Ventilated front seats, navigation, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel are optional.
Standard safety features include eight airbags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, and a rear view camera. The MKZ Hybrid is also available with a long list of safety technology, including forward collision sensors, blind sport warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and inflatable rear seat belts which keep rear occupants safer in a collision.
