The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer has everything you need in a sports sedan: sporty design, cutting-edge technology, excellent fuel economy and a friendly price.

There are three styles to choose from, the DE, ES and GTS. All come equipped with seven airbags as standard equipment, including a driver’s side knee airbag, which helps to stabilize the legs and lower body in certain types of frontal collisions.

The 2007 Lancer was nominated tech car of the year and has evolved to make the 2009 model compatible with all of your gadgets. Both the ES and GTS have optional auxiliary audio input jacks (for iPods), power glass sunroof with sunshade, FAST Key (Free-Hand Advanced Security Transmitter) entry system—a keyless, proximity-activated, auto-unlock system, and Bluetooth hands-free cell phone integration.

Features available in the GTS model include a GPS-based navigation system that stores mapping data on a 30GB hard disk drive (with 6GB set aside for personally recorded audio files). The navigation system, Sirius satellite radio and all audio controls make up the driver information center, which is displayed on a 7" LCD touch screen panel.

The Lancer is environmentally friendly and will save you money at the pump. The DE and ES both have a 152-horsepower, 2.0-liter engine that gets great mileage. Expect 22 MPG city and 30 MPG highway for a manual transmission (MT), and 22/28 MPG city/highway for a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The DE and ES trims have the best PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) rating for non-hybrid vehicles, which is great for the environment. The GTS has a 168-horsepower, 2.4-liter engine with 21/28 MPG for a MT, and 21/27 MPG for a CVT.

Prices range from $13,990 for the DE to $18,990 for the GTS. However, if you decide to pick up any of the optional packages, you could see the price break the $20,000 plateau.

The 2009 Lancer will save you money at the pump and at the dealership without compromising on style and technology.
