2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Overview
After sitting out a year in 2009, the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is back with mind-blowing turbocharged performance in an economical sedan package that is sure to generate heart-pumping fun. Behind that sharp-edged, aggressive front fascia is a 291-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pulls you furiously along especially at high engine speeds. Power is directed through an ultra-precise five-speed manual or a fast-shifting six-speed dual-clutch transmission to Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system. Fuel economy ratings reach 16-17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Power and fuel economy are a bit lower than the Subaru Impreza WRX STi’s. On the base GSR model, the aerodynamic rear diffuser works double-duty to add to the Lancer Evolution’s aggressive style, as well as signal to performance enthusiasts that the “Evo” means business. Recaro® racing seats hold occupants tightly, which is something all will appreciate when the Yokohama ADVAN® tires are being exercised to their full potential. Enkei® 18-inch alloy wheels bring lots of rubber to the road, and some of the most perfect steering design in the industry allows you to take full advantage of that grip. A 140-watt stereo with six speakers provides audio entertainment, while Bluetooth connectivity provides for safe mobile communications. Inside the MR edition of the Lancer Evolution are magnesium paddle shifters, mounted on the steering wheel. A 710-watt Rockford Fosgate® stereo pumps out some loud audio entertainment through its nine speakers, 10-inch subwoofer included. The top-end MR Touring model enhances creature comfort with leather seats, including heat for the front two. For lighter weight and a lower center of gravity the MR Touring sports an aluminum roof along with the standard aluminum hood and front fenders. A power glass sunroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers and a navigation system add more luxury to this performance-oriented ride. BREMBO brakes, controlled by a sports-tuned antilock brakes system, provide stomach-in-your-mouth stopping power, which is great for track driving and accident avoidance alike. The ABS system includes electronic brake-force distribution for optimal sure-footedness. Seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag, provide excellent cushioning for occupants during impact. Crash test ratings for the Evolution model are not specifically available, but the Evo’s tamer Lancer sedan sibling received Four-Star front impact ratings from NHTSA and “Good” ratings from the IIHS. Wicked turbocharged four-cylinder performance in an affordable four-door sedan package let you be both naughty and nice with the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
