2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse Overview
Overshadowing last year’s model offerings, the 2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse adds a high-performance GS Sport trim level to its lineup.
The 2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse is available as a hatchback sport coupe or convertible Spyder in base GS, premium GT and the new GS Sport trim levels. GS and GS Sport models are equipped with a 162-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, while the GT receives a 265-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 coupled to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. Sportronic mode, available on GS and GT models, allows you to shift gears manually with just the push of a lever. The 2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse achieves competitive efficiency for a performance car with EPA estimated fuel economy ratings of 16-20 mpg in the city and 24-28 mpg on the highway.
Facing competition from the likes of Ford Mustang and Honda Civic Si, the base GS sits on standard 17-inch alloy wheels and now features dual exhaust and a two-tone front and rear fascia. Additional standard offerings are pretty impressive for a base model and include keyless entry, cruise control, 50/50-split-folding rear seats for more cargo room, a six-speaker sound system with CD player and MP3 capability and full power accessories. A four-wheel independent suspension will ensure a more comfortable ride.
The new GS Sport rests on 18-inch alloy wheels and features high-intensity-discharge headlights, a sunroof, rear spoiler, 650-watt premium audio system with satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity and a backup camera with rearview-mirror-mounted display. Also perched atop 18-inch alloys, the premium GT adds leather uphostery with heated front seats, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, foglamps, heated side mirrors and automatic climate control.
When it comes to safety, the 2010, the Mitsubishi Eclipse adds standard electronic stability control across all models. A full complement of airbags includes side-impact for the front seats and side curtains. Open head restraints and antilock brakes also are standard offerings.
While other 2010 sports coupes rest on their 2009 laurels, the 2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse has overshadowed the competition with its sporty look, feel, price and all-new GS Sport trim level.
