2016 MINI MINI-Countryman Overview

  • Available all-wheel drive trims
  • Available 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters
  • Newly available Park Lane Package includes a metallic gray/red exterior and a unique interior trim
The 2016 MINI Countryman is a small, 4-door crossover that seats 5 passengers. It competes with the BMW X1, Buick Encore, and Nissan Juke.

Four trim levels are available: the base Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper S ALL4, and John Cooper Works (JCW) ALL4 Countryman.

The Countryman is a stretched-out, elongated MINI Cooper with more rugged styling. The headlights are more pillow-shaped than circular. The front bumper is more blockish than rounded. Standard features include power and heated side mirrors and 17-inch wheels. Xenon headlights, fog lights, a power moonroof, auto-dimming side mirrors, a spoiler, and larger 19-inch wheels are available as well. The JCW 4ALL Countryman has standard sport body styling, sport suspension, and 18-inch wheels.

The Cooper Countryman is powered by a standard 121-hp, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). A 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and all-wheel drive (AWD) are independently available. The Cooper S, Cooper S ALL4, JCW ALL4 Countryman trims utilize turbocharged versions of the same engine. The Cooper S and Cooper S ALL4 achieve 181-hp. The JCW ALL4 Countryman is tuned even further, and achieves 208-hp.

Fuel economy for the Cooper Countryman is an EPA-estimated 27/32 mpg city/highway. The Cooper S is rated at 26/32 mpg. The Cooper S ALL4 and JCW ALL4 drop to a 25/31 mpg rating.

Inside, the Countryman retains a fun vibe with its standard front sport seats and large central speedometer. It also features a unique dashboard with a circular center display. Cruise control, simulated leather upholstery, and a split-folding back seat come standard. Optional features include navigation system, a panoramic moonroof, full leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a Harmon Kardon premium audio system.
Standard safety features include front airbags, antilock brakes, and an electronic stability system. Reverse sensing system and panic alarm are available as well.
