2009 MINI John Cooper Works Overview
Drivers who have the need for speed, unique styling and race car-like handling will fall in love with the all-new 2009 MINI John Cooper Works. Part rocket, part go-kart, this Cooper is the real deal.
Built to give drivers more power and standard options than the MINI Cooper, the all-new Works is available in a three-door compact hatchback with hardtop. A 1.6-liter 208-horsepower turbocharged engine generates 192 lb-ft of torque, with an Overboost function that delivers 207 lb-ft of torque. Available only as a 6-speed manual, the Cooper Works can reach 62 MPH in 6.5 seconds. Not only is the Cooper Works lightning fast, but it is unconventionally fuel efficient. Expect to receive 25 MPG city and 33 MPG highway. That is better fuel economy and more power than the Volkswagen Beetle, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Mazda MX-5 Miata, and Scion tC.
Sure the John Cooper Works costs a tad more than the MINI Cooper, but there’s a reason why it is called the “Works”. Just a like hoagie is tastier with the “works”, the same holds true for the Cooper. Because the Cooper got its start on the race track, the John Cooper Works incorporates new standard features to give a tighter and faster driving experience. Starting with 4-piston aluminum Brembo brakes with 12.4-inch, ventilated brake discs, the John Cooper Works proves that fast isn’t the only area of expertise. Choose between three different modes that assist in controlling the Cooper—Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control and Electronic Differential Lock Control.
It gets better. 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, 6-way adjustable sport seats, LED waterfall lighting, stainless steel foot pedals, 50/50 split rear seats, six speakers with AM/FM/CD player, and a plug-and-play electronics system also come standard. An optional navigation system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, Hi-Fi CD sound system, 10 speakers, MP3 capability, and high-definition radio for the ultimate sound prove that MINIs are technologically advanced in every way.
Safety features include 4-wheel, 4-sensor anti-lock brakes, and six standard airbags, which include dual front, dual seat-mounted side, and side curtain airbags to protect front and rear passengers. Optional Xenon High Intensity Discharge headlamps with auto-leveling and power washer keep visibility at a maximum.
Experience the ultimate in classic racing, styling, handling and excitement. Experience the all-new 2009 MINI John Cooper Works.
