MINI Cooper vs. BMW M6 Review

Performance
With respect to horsepower, the BMW M6 packs quite a punch and will knock the MINI Cooper down a few rungs. On the flip side, keep in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums. The Cooper is likely to feel a little sluggish because of its high horsepower-to-weight ratio compared to the BMW M6. With its very low horsepower-to-weight ratio, the BMW M6 will knock you back into your seat when you step on the gas.

Handling
The Cooper's front-wheel drive layout likely gives it better traction in rain, snow or ice than the BMW; however, the BMW's rear-wheel drive layout likely provides better weight distribution. The BMW M6 has tremendously bigger tires than the MINI Cooper. Note that wider tires can look and feel better, while narrower tires might improve gas mileage. With its tighter turning radius, the Cooper is definitely more maneuverable than the BMW M6, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, keep in mind that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

The MINI Cooper's engine is tremendously smaller than the BMW M6's. Remember that smaller engines can be stressed more; on the other hand, smaller engines typically get better gas mileage. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the BMW M6 is tremendously more powerful than the MINI Cooper. Because the M6's maximum torque is reached at high RPMs, you'll have to shift gears a lot, especially when passing.

Utility
The Cooper's bigger trunk will accommodate more sizeable items than the BMW M6. The MINI Cooper and the M6 can accommodate the same number of passengers.

Convenience
You'll very likely have to take the BMW for a fill-up more often than the MINI because of its tank size and fuel economy.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the MINI Cooper offers a bit more head room than the BMW M6, there honestly isn't much of a difference. The MINI Cooper is not particularly more spacious for your passengers than the BMW M6.

Dimensions
The MINI is likely to feel slightly slow because of its high horsepower-to-weight ratio compared to the BMW. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the BMW M6 than the MINI Cooper because of its more capacious tank. The Cooper fits in smaller parking spaces than the BMW. The M6's longer wheelbase will result in a smoother, more stable ride; on the other hand, the MINI Cooper may give a nimbler feel in daily traffic.

Cost
When it comes to fuel economy, the MINI Cooper has the BMW M6 beat. The BMW M6 pales in comparison to the MINI regarding fuel economy. The MINI Cooper will save you a bundle at the pump every year compared to the M6.
