2012 MINI Cooper S Exterior

2012 MINI Cooper S Overview

The Mini Cooper S combines style, performance and driving excitement with a laundry list of standard and optional features sure to appeal to the small car-driving enthusiast. The two-door, four-seater Hardtop and Convertible Minis are joined by new two-door Coupe and Roaster models for full slate of Mini Cooper S options for 2012.

To further encourage Mini owners to customize the Cooper S, Mini has rolled out the “Mini Yours” program for 2012, which includes a host of custom options including custom body color and graphics, interior trim and upholsteries, and performance options.

Mini keeps the naming simple with its models; the Cooper S is essentially the same car as the normal Cooper, just know that when you see the “S” tacked on the end it means it has a more powerful engine and drives sportier. The Cooper S is powered by a 181-horsepower, turbocharged 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard, while the optional six-speed automatic transmission includes push-button paddle shifters for manual gearshift control. Sport mode offers greater acceleration response and tighter steering at the push of a button, but does sacrifice fuel economy for performance when in use. The Cooper S also has an upgraded performance suspension that features front and rear anti-sway bars and a multi-link rear suspension for better handling.

Fuel economy for all four models of the 2012 Mini Cooper S is rated at 34-35 mpg for city driving and 26-27 mpg on the highway.

The Hardtop and Convertible Cooper S seat four, while the Coupe and Roaster seat two. The Hardtop and Convertible come with 50/50 split rear passenger seats that can be folded down for additional cargo space. Manual six-way adjustable sport seats with leatherette upholstery are standard, and Mini owners may customize their Cooper S with cloth, cloth/leather, or leather upholstery (in a wide variety of styles and color choices), two-way adjustable lumbar support, and heated front seats.

The standard audio system includes HD Radio and satellite radio with a full one-year subscription. A premium Harman/kardon sound system, Bluetooth® connectivity, and USB/iPod integration are also available options. The Mini Connected optional package adds a center-speedometer high-definition display, joystick, steering wheel button and voice command control, and integrates with the iPhone to connect drivers to a host of iPhone apps from behind the wheel. Satellite GPS navigation may also be added to the Mini Connected package.

Cooper S drivers may update the 16-inch standard alloy wheels to a number of 16- and 17-inch wheel choices, and select wheel styles are available in black as well as alloy. Front fog lamps are a standard feature, and rear fog lamps are available. The Roadster features a manual soft-top with a glass rear-window, and the Convertible’s three-in-one roof includes a sunroof and automatically folds into its own compact space with a touch of a button.

Top-down models of the Cooper S feature an active rollover protection bar to increase passenger safety in the event of a rollover, and all Minis use high-strength steel and rigid body construction. Front and rear airbags protect driver and passengers, and the Hardtop has two additional side curtain airbags. A breakaway engine design protects the legs of the driver and front passenger in the event of a head-on collision. Anti-lock brakes, dynamic stability control, and optional dynamic traction control ensure on-road stability and quick stop time.

The sporty, go-kart racing feel of the Mini Cooper S ensures that small car enthusiasts can combine a passion for high-performance driving and unique style with the sensibility of eco-friendly fuel economy.
