2012 MINI Cooper Countryman Exterior

2012 MINI Cooper Countryman Overview

The 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman combines the style and performance of a Mini Cooper with the functionality of a small crossover vehicle. The three trim levels - Cooper, Cooper S, and ALL4  combined with Mini’s new Mini Yours personalization program, makes it possible for Countryman owners to create a stylish and unique driving experience.

The Countryman has a 121-horsepower, 1.6-liter, inline four-cylinder engine. If you want more power, consider moving up to the Cooper S or ALL4 Countryman models, which have a 181-horsepower, turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine (they are covered separately on this site). A six-speed manual transmission is standard for all trim levels, and can be upgraded to the six-speed automatic transmission.

The Countryman gets 25-27 mpg in the city and 30-35 mpg on the highway, making it one of the most fuel efficient crossovers on the road today. In fact, the 2012 Cooper Countryman was’s pick for Best Fuel Efficient small crossover.

The four-door Countryman seats four passengers in reclining bucket seats for front and rear passengers, and the seats slide forward or backward to maximize legroom. Rear seats can also be folded down completely for additional cargo space. The Countryman has standard six-way adjustable manual leatherette seats and optional sport seats. Optional seating upgrades include two-way adjustable lumbar support, cloth, cloth/leather, or leather upholstery, and heated seats. A center rail console runs through the length of the vehicle, and provides customizable storage and convenience options for all vehicle occupants.

The standard audio system includes HD and Sirius Satellite Radio (with one-year complementary subscription), and a premium Harman/Kardon sound system is available. The optional Mini Connected entertainment system features a high-definition display in the center speedometer, Bluetooth® connectivity, smartphone integration, and a USB/iPod adapter. An optional navigation system adds talking and voice-command GPS and real time traffic.

The standard 17-inch alloy wheels may be upgraded to 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels that also come in white, black, or anthracite. The low, wide stance of the Countryman is accentuated with a black grille, front fog lamps, roof rails, and duel-split tailpipes. The Mini Yours program offers a complete palette of unique custom options to tailor the Countryman exactly to your tastes.

Safety is not compromised with seven standard airbags. Crash sensors measure impact severity in a collision to deploy the airbags at the appropriate rate. A crash sensor system automatically unlocks doors, turns on interior and hazard lights, and cuts off the fuel pump (when airbags are deployed) in the event of a collision. Dynamic stability and available traction control maximize driving control, and cornering brake control with electronic brakeforce distribution ensures optimal stopping performance.

For Mini enthusiasts needing more interior space and passenger comfort, the Cooper Countryman preserves the character of the Mini Cooper while providing the added passenger comfort and cargo space of a small SUV.
