2012 MINI Cooper Clubman Overview
If you like your Mini’s not so mini, then the extended-length 2012 Mini Cooper Clubman is the car for you.
First things first. Mini launched ‘Mini Yours,’ which is a way to personalize your Mini with premium options like a two-tone leather-covered instrument panel and steering wheel, unique seat upholstery and 17-inch alloy wheels. Regular Clubman’s now have standard 15-inch wheels, and an optional rearview mirror with a digital compass. The extended-length Clubman competes in the hatchback segment with the Mazda3 and Volvo C30, and has a more-powerful sibling, the S Clubman.
The Clubman is powered by a 121-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder that gets 114 pounds-feet of torque and can be paired to a standard six-speed manual, or an optional six-speed automatic transmission. It might not be the fastest car out there, but the Clubman is extremely efficient, to the tune of 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. With standard performance tires, a sport button with accelerator and steering programs, the Clubman is built for nimble handling. However, the fun doesn’t end with those features – all-season tires and a sport suspension with stiffer front and rear stabilizer bars are optional.
What sets the 2012 Mini Cooper Clubman apart from the competition and even other Mini’s are the rear split-doors with left and right hinged swinging doors, and overall color scheme. You can have the rear bumper, C-Pillars and roof all take on the same color, essentially framing the rear doors and providing an overall funky design. Adaptive xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights, heated mirror, washer jets, automatic windshield wipers and a dual-panel panoramic power sunroof are key options.
Because of its longer wheelbase (3.2 inches), the interior of the Clubman is actually somewhat roomy. Feel free to load up all 9.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, or all 32.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Rear seat passengers will enjoy 32.3 inches of legroom so you can accommodate people of all sizes comfortably. A navigation system, USB/iPod adapter, heated seats, automatic climate control and the Mini Connected system that includes, Bluetooth, voice recognition and joystick control are all optional.
When it comes to safety, the 2012 Clubman has the basics. Side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, an electronic stability system and an antilock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution are all standard.
Enjoy a sporty driving experience in the very efficient and spacious 2012 Mini Cooper Clubman hatchback.
