Mercury Mountaineer vs. Saturn OUTLOOK Review

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the Saturn OUTLOOK to the dealership as the Mercury Mountaineer. The Saturn OUTLOOK will save you money at the pump compared to the Mercury Mountaineer. Producing an accurate fuel economy evaluation is so hard that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though the OUTLOOK is the winner with respect to fuel economy. As far as MSRP, the Mercury Mountaineer costs roughly as much as the Saturn OUTLOOK (though the Saturn OUTLOOK is a bit cheaper).

Utility
Drivers with frequent kid-duty might favor the Saturn OUTLOOK over the Mountaineer. Towing is significantly more the Mountaineer's forte than it is the OUTLOOK's.

Convenience
The Mercury's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the OUTLOOK.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Saturn OUTLOOK offers a bit more head room than the Mountaineer, there really isn't much of a difference. While the rear of the Saturn OUTLOOK provides a bit more head- and leg-room than the Mercury Mountaineer, there frankly isn't much of a difference.

Dimensions
The Saturn OUTLOOK's tank is approximately the same size as the Mercury Mountaineer's, though the Mercury Mountaineer's is a little larger. The Mercury Mountaineer and the Saturn compete for the same parking spaces.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Mountaineer is quite certainly more agile than the Saturn OUTLOOK, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, remember that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The OUTLOOK and the Mountaineer have similar-sized engines, with a slight advantage to the Mountaineer. The Mercury Mountaineer has no lessons to learn in terms of pickup from the Saturn OUTLOOK.

Warranty
The Saturn OUTLOOK and the Mercury Mountaineer have the same basic after-sale protection.
