Drivers with frequent kid-duty might favor the Mountaineer over the Nissan Murano. Towing is substantially more the Mercury Mountaineer's forte than it is the Nissan Murano's.

The Mercury Mountaineer is significantly heavier than the Murano. The Nissan Murano's tank is roughly the same size as the Mercury's, though the Mercury's is a bit bigger. The Nissan Murano and the Mercury compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
The Mercury Mountaineer's fuel tank will need to be replenished a little more often than the unit in the Nissan Murano.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs approximately the same to get the Murano to the dealership as the Mercury Mountaineer. In terms of fuel economy, the Nissan has the Mountaineer beat. In terms of MSRP, the Nissan Murano costs substantially less than the Mountaineer.

With their similar turning circles, the Mercury Mountaineer and the Nissan Murano most definitely handle almost the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Mountaineer has a more massive engine than the Nissan Murano. Remember that smaller engines are often cheaper to fix, but a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder. The Nissan Murano has no lessons to learn regarding pickup from the Mercury Mountaineer.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Nissan offers a bit more head room than the Mercury Mountaineer, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The Nissan Murano is not particularly roomier for your passengers than the Mercury Mountaineer.
