Mercury Mountaineer vs. Land Rover LR2 Review

The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs approximately the same to get the Mercury Mountaineer to the dealership as the Land Rover. The Mercury won't tax your gas budget substantially more than the Land Rover LR2 will. The Mercury Mountaineer doesn't pale in comparison to the Land Rover LR2 when it comes to gas mileage. The Land Rover LR2 isn't much costlier than the Mercury Mountaineer when it comes to MSRP.

Utility
The Mercury Mountaineer will definitely prove friendlier than the Land Rover LR2 for those of you with frequent kid-cargo. The Mercury Mountaineer outpulls the Land Rover LR2 by a large margin.

Convenience
The Land Rover LR2's fuel tank will need to be replenished slightly more often than the unit in the Mountaineer.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Land Rover LR2 offers a bit more head room than the Mercury Mountaineer, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The Land Rover LR2 is not particularly more spacious for your passengers than the Mercury Mountaineer.

Dimensions
Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Mercury Mountaineer than the Land Rover because of its larger tank. The Land Rover LR2 and the Mountaineer compete for the same parking spaces. The Mercury Mountaineer's longer wheelbase will likely result in a smoother, more stable ride; on the flip side, the Land Rover LR2 may give a more agile feel in daily traffic.

Performance
With respect to horsepower, the Mercury Mountaineer packs quite a wallop and will knock the Land Rover LR2 down a few rungs. However, remember that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

With their comparable turning circles, the Mercury and the Land Rover LR2 definitely handle about the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Land Rover LR2's engine is substantially smaller than the Mercury's. Note that smaller engines can be stressed more; on the flip side, smaller engines typically get better gas mileage. The Land Rover LR2 has no lessons to learn regarding pickup from the Mercury.
