Mercury Mountaineer vs. Dodge Durango Review

Utility
The Dodge Durango will definitely prove handier than the Mercury Mountaineer for those of you with frequent kid-cargo. There's little the Dodge Durango can tow that the Mercury Mountaineer cannot.

Dimensions
Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Durango than the Mercury Mountaineer because of its bigger tank. The Mercury Mountaineer and the Dodge Durango compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
You'll quite certainly take the Mercury Mountaineer for a fill-up approximately as often as the Durango.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the Mountaineer to the dealership as the Dodge Durango. In terms of fuel economy, the Mercury Mountaineer is somewhat better than the Dodge Durango, but not by much. The Mercury Mountaineer won't save you much money at the pump compared to the Dodge Durango. In terms of MSRP, the Dodge Durango costs about as much as the Mercury (though the Mercury is a bit cheaper).

Handling
With their similar turning circles, the Mercury and the Dodge quite certainly handle almost the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Durango's engine is significantly larger than the Mercury Mountaineer's. Note that more massive engines may use more gasoline than smaller ones. The Mercury Mountaineer could learn a lesson or two from the Dodge Durango as far as pickup.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Dodge Durango offers a bit more head room than the Mercury, there really isn't much of a difference. While the rear of the Dodge Durango provides a bit more head- and leg-room than the Mercury Mountaineer, there honestly isn't much of a difference.

Warranty
The Dodge Durango and the Mercury have the same basic warranty.
