2009 Mercury Mountaineer Overview
A versatile, well-appointed midsize SUV with abundant cargo capacity, the 2009 Mercury Mountaineer is a solid mix of convenience, roominess, and towing power.

Available in two trim levels, the Mountaineer and Mountaineer Premier, each offers a variety of configurations to accommodate a wide range of uses.  Engine options begin with a 4.0-liter, 210-horsepower V-6 engine in the base model. When equipped with the optional all-wheel drive system, it can tow up to 5,000 pounds. when properly equipped. For additional power and towing ability, the Mountaineer Premier is available with a 4.6-liter, 292-horsepower V-8 engine delivering a robust 300 pounds-feet of torque. In this configuration with optional all-wheel drive, the Premier can tow up to 7,050 pounds.  The Mountaineer is basically a luxurious version of the Ford Explorer and competes with the Saab 9-7X, Buick Enclave and Chrysler Aspen.

The Mountaineer features a wealth of convenience features. The available reverse sensing system lets you park like a pro with ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper to audibly alert you the certain objects behind the vehicle while backing up. Power deployable running boards automatically deploy as the doors are opened and glide back into the stowed position when the doors are closed. A two-way liftgate features a flip-up glass window that operates independently from the liftgate for easy access to the storage area.  The Mountaineer can seat up to seven passengers with three rows of seats. The Premier model features a class-exclusive optional third-row PowerFold™ 50/50 split-bench seat for two passengers. With the second-row seats folded down, a maximum of 85.8 cubic feet of cargo space is created in five-passenger models.

Interior amenities are richly appointed as well. Available leather-trimmed seating and 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar makes occupants feel right at home. A one-touch moonroof lets the sun, the moon, or just some fresh air in. Infotainment technology is abundant, with a DVD-based navigation system including an Audiophile® Sound System, featuring a six-disc CD changer, 190 watts of power, and seven speakers, including an eight-inch subwoofer. The rear-seat DVD entertainment system includes an eight-inch pull-down screen, wireless headphones, remote control, and storage compartment. To top it off, the Mountaineer features the SYNC™ communication system – a fully-integrated, voice-activated in-car communications and entertainment system for mobile phones and digital music players.

In the midsize SUV class, the 2009 Mercury Mountaineer stands out with its abundant power, towing capabilities, and wide array of safety and luxury features.
